Supermarkets are displacing bazaars in Bishkek
Modern retail formats are struggling to reclaim their place from traditional ones when it comes to grocery shopping. Only 22% of respondents in the Kyrgyz Republic prefer to shop at supermarkets, while almost half (48%) most often shop at bazaars. However, consumer behavior trends are changing more quickly in the capital: among Bishkek residents, a relative majority (34%) prefer large supermarkets. Small shops close to home occupy a significant place both in the capital and beyond.
